Are You With Me? An Honest Look At Your Relationships

by Janet on March 24, 2010

As women, our connections are our lifeblood. Relationships form the foundation of our world, don’t they?

I’m sure you recognize how they impact everything you do. And whether you realize it or not, your relationships have a huge effect on all the choices you make, too:

  • how you spend your time
  • who you spend time with
  • how you spend your money
  • how you conduct your business
  • what time you devote to your business

…. and the list goes on.

In my own life, and in the lives of my clients, I see more subtle relationship effects that have very large consequences. As you move forward in pursuing your dreams — in your personal growth and in your business — people around you can get very uncomfortable with the changes in you. Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You hear warnings and fears about why what you’re doing is a bad idea.
  • You’re criticized for neglecting friendships or former activities.
  • You hear some camouflaged version of “Who do you think you are?”
  • You hear horror stories of people who tried something similar and failed miserably.
  • And sometimes worse….

Now here’s where it gets tricky. These may be lifelong friends. They may be business colleagues and partners. They might even be family members. In other words – people you have deep connection with.

The Honest Truth

The honest truth is this: If you continue to subject yourself to their sabotaging energy, you’re making a choice to stay stuck, or at the very least to move slowly.

On the flip side, if you address these problems, you’re guaranteed to change the relationship – and maybe even lose it.

It’s a tough choice to make sometimes, but it’s a choice for progress. It’s a choice for growth. And ultimately, it’s a choice for creating NEW relationships.

Nature abhors a vacuum, and the spaces you create with your changes will be filled with the energy of people who are growing, too. This means new people who are on your new wavelength. And sometimes (I LOVE this!) it brings out a more positive, growing side of those lifelong connections.

So what’s your choice? And what’s your experience with this? Let’s hear about it in the comments below.
